| The American Civil War was one of the most heroic and tragic events in US history, pitting North against South and brother against brother. Though the cost in lives lost, destroyed relationships and finances was enormous, qualities of excellence of spirit rose to the forefront on both sides. Courage, sacrifice and compassion were daily exhibited on the field of battle as well as back home. Although the Southern army possessed the most colorful and skillful leaders, the North was to prevail in the end through the power of its resources and inexhaustible reserve of men. |
